1) Success at Southern Cross Sports Day!
Netball and soccer teams from our Primary School travelled to Hoedspruit on Saturday 19 May to participate in the Southern Cross Schools Sports Festival. A number of other primary schools participated. Despite arriving late, as a result of taking a wrong turn, and missing a couple of the round-robin matches, our U11 and U13 soccer teams both made it into the semi-finals. Beyond all expectations, both teams then won through to the finals and impressed by winning the finals as well. Well done to all our NEC participants and in particular our soccer players for winning the tournament.

2) Nyukanites Seizing Learning Opportunities
Our senior accounting learners sat the first round of the National Accounting Olympiad on Thursday 17 May. Three of our learners travelled to Polokwane for a provincial speech competition on water and sanitation and Nonzwakazi Khosa, Gr12 delivered a passionate address to the High School on Friday 18 May. Her topic was “Your future lies in your hands”.

3) Our NEC Staff Matters
We are very pleased to welcome Ms Ntsako Mabunda to the NEC Giyani team. Ms Mabunda has been appointed as the PA to the Executive Head and we wish her every success and great fulfilment at our school. On Friday 18 May the NEC Giyani staff had a chance to unwind a bit around the braai fires after another busy week. The relaxation didn’t last long as staff were up bright and early with sports teams on Saturday morning.

4) Fun & Games at the Khanyisa Sports Festival
On Saturday 19 May we had chess, public speaking, volleyball, netball and soccer teams participating in the Khanyisa Sports Festival. Our children did us proud with the chess team winning overall. The soccer teams did particularly well as well with the U19s making it to the semifinals and the U15s competing in the final. Both teams lost their respective matches but did really well nevertheless. Congratulations all!
